- Course objectives
- The aim of the subject is to Deepen one's knowledge of historical and thematic cartography, to get acquainted with various approaches and methods of cartographic work in the field / creation of topographic and thematic maps / to acquire practical skills in cartographic material and devices (topographic and thematic maps, magnetic compasses , GPS and more). To learn the basics of field mapping when creating a map, Create a map of land use with respect to basic cartographic principles, Create a worksheet useful for elementary school students when visiting the cartographic center in Velké Opatovice, Learn how to work with a GPS device, Be able to orientate in unknown areas (using topographic map, magnetic compasses and GPS) Draw a panoramic sketch, evaluate landscape structure according to the sketch and photo documentation, Evaluate the change of landscape during field research, Learn how to determine and draw the marching angle of a route using a magnetic compass Familiarize the students with the principles of geocaching and apply it practically, Learn the students how to orientate themselves in the landscape using GPS and to searching for selected points ("treasures").
