- Course objectives
- The objective of the course is to acquaint students with current trends in geographical education and their impacts on the content and methods of study and teaching of this field and to reach a deeper understanding of phenomena which form both the theory and practice of geographical education.
- Learning outcomes
- • Critically review at least two of the most important and, in the expert community, foreign studies underlying the subject of geographic education (International Journal of Geography and Environmental Education, Journal of Geography and Geography, Geography and Geography Education). • Handles discussion text critically assessing the currently discussed concept, theory, approach, method, content component, and so on.
- Syllabus
- - The composition and choice of geographical educational contents, development of geographical education in relation to the changing world around. - The creation of a curriculum of geographical education, the role of research in geographical education and quality in geographical education. - The role of fieldwork in geographical education, the opportunities to use informational and communicational technologies in geographical education, inter-course overlaps in geographical education, geographical education and its connections to sustainable development and civic engagement. - Critical thinking in geographical education, effective educational strategies and powerful knowledge geographical education. Each of these topics will be viewed not only in its theoretical context, but also from the point of view of its influence on the practice of geographical education.

- Theoretical preparation, group discussion, critical reading.
- Assessment methods
- - Based on a detailed reading of related scholarly literature, the student will create a text which is going to discuss and critically evaluate a chosen currently discussed conception, theory, approach, method or a component of contents of geographical education. - To critically evaluate at least two currently important foreign studies within the field of geographical education which are a topic of discussion in the scientific community.
