Course objectives
The objective of the course is to present the information concerning the prevention of the ageing syndrome. The course also includes simulations that allow the students to experience various physical changes (slouching back, limited hearing, limited eyesight, stiffening of joints, muscular weakness) in the old age; the students are led to greater empathy towards seniors.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the students will: Be able to formulate the main issues relating to human health, its protection and promotion, with a focus on the issue of chronic non-communicable diseases and prevention of the ageing syndrome, Be able to review their own existing knowledge, Actively search for new information and perform a critical analysis of such information, Be able to assess their own risk behaviour and actively improve their own lifestyles.
Syllabus
  • Content of seminars: 1. – 4. Chronic non-communicable diseases and their prevention (prevention of cardiovascular diseases, metabolic syndrome, cancer, allergies); 5. – 8. Prevention of the ageing syndrome (prevention of osteoporosis, sarcopenia, incontinence, memory disorders); 9. – 12. Health promotion programmes. Content of seminars: 1. Simulation of the ageing syndrome 2. Students shall produce a seminar paper on a selected topic and present the paper in lessons. A precondition is didactic transformation of the topic.

The course is delivered in the form of seminars and individual work (development of a didactic material on a selected topic).
Assessment methods
Students shall demonstrate knowledge of the issue and produce a seminar paper on a selected topic.
