- Course objectives
- The targets:
1. Cognition of the development of the theoretical opinions in the Czech linguistics from the outset to nowadays with accent of the linguists of the 2. half of the 20. century.
2. Cognition of the representatives of the contemporary Czech studies.
3. Establishment and development of the ability to analyse works of some representative of the Czech studies. - Learning outcomes
- It is presupposed that after finishing the course:
– the students know the most important representatives of the linguistic disciplines, especially of the 2. half of the 20th century and after the year 2000;
- the students know departments of Czech studies in abroad;
– the students are knowledgeable in the theme of contemporary Czech linguistics;
- the students are able to write a short essay on some Czech linguist. - Syllabus
- 1. Theme of contemporary Czech linguistics. Linguistic institutions. Linguistic journals.
- 2. The most important representatives of Czech phonetics and phonology (M. Krčmová, E. Palková and others). The benefit of the Prague Linguistic Circle for the contemporary phonetics and phonology. The benefit of those disciplines for the refinement of language and speech.
- 3. The most important representatives of Czech morphology (F. Trávníček, M. Komárek, Z. Rusínová, M. Vondráček, J. Šimandl). The benefit of the morphology for the refinement of language and speech.
- 4. The most important representatives of Czech syntax (F. Trávníček, V. Šmilauer, F. Kopečný, M. Grepl, P. Karlík, J. Bauer, F. Štícha, J. Bílková, M. Vondráček).
- 5. The most important representatives of lexicology and word-forming (M. Dokulil, V. Šmilauer, P. Hauser, I. Bozděchová, O. Martincová, F. Čermák, F. Štícha). The neologism in the contemporary Czech.
- 6. Stylistics and the representatives of it (M. Jelínek, J. Chloupek, M. Krčmová, E. Minářová, S. Čmejrková, J. Hoffmannová…). The benefit of the Prague Linguistic Circle for the contemporary stylistics.
- 7. Dialectologie v Czech linguistics (A. Kellner, J. Balhar, V. Michálková, A. Lamprecht, M. Šipková, R. Šrámek).

- The subject is concluded by credit.
To win the credit the students have to - study linguistic literature on the theme of the lectures;
- essays on the theme of the lecture the student choose (minimal 4 pages of texts);
- tests with various types of questions; the students have to answer 75 % of those questions correctly. - Language of instruction
