- Course objectives
- The subject is focused to:
(a) the improvement of the ability in working with the texts of various style spheres and of the analyse of the elements of the levels of language in the complex point of view/as a parts of the whole.
(b) the improvement of the ability to analyse the texts individually and to assess the methods of the analysis of various language levels;
(c) establishment of the ability to choose suitable text for explaining or practice elementary or complex parsing. - Learning outcomes
- After finishing the course the student will be able:
(a) to analyse language means of various levels in some text;
(b) after parsing of the elementary language phenomena to evaluate text as a whole: textual structure, stylish value of the language means and their function;
(c) to choose suitable texts for the verification of special language phenomena;
(d) to use language parsing in the teaching of Czech language. - Syllabus
- 1. Syntactical structure of the text. Sentence, compound sentence and complex sentence in the text. Connective words.
- 2. Complex analysis of the compound and complex sentence. Embedded sentences.
- 3. Sentence and its structure. Word classes and the function of them (as elements of sentence). Sentential relationships and expression of them.
- 4. Irregularities in the sentential structure. Function of the irregularities in the text.
- 5. Lexical units in text, relationships among them. Multiverbal lexical units in the text.
- 6. Word-forming analysis, morphematic structur of the word. Word forming analysis in praxis. Model and analogous word-formation. Word formation of the substantives.
- 7. Word-forming analysis of the adjectives and adverbs. Word-formation of the pronouns and numerals.
- 8. Word-forming analysis of the verbs.
- 9. Compound words in the contemporary texts. Function of the hybrid compound words. Quasicomposition.
- 10. Some special morphological phenomena in th texts. Correct grammatical form of the words. Morphological variants of the grammatical form of words.
- 11. Verbal conjugation. Verbs in verbal class. Contemporary form and the etymology (potential discrepantion).
- 12. Some problems of Czech vowels and consonants. Changes of the sounds in the fluent speech, asimilation.

- Teaching methods
- (a) One-to-one study - preparation of the textual analysis
(b) Analysis of the text, diskussion, argumentation.
(c) Synthesis, evaluation of some elements of text.
(d) Individual testing. - Assessment methods
- Credit requirements:
(a) The students have to make the exam paper with the questions of the word-formation, syntax, morphology and lexicology. There are 40-50 questions in the exam paper, students have to manage 80 % of them succesfully.
Students have to hand in a written work = analysis of the text that is focused to the composition and stylish characteristics. Student may choose the text. - Language of instruction
