Prerequisites
The subject is suitable for students who have already gained basic knowledge in the psychology. It is recommended that the students have finished the courses in general and developmental psychology.

Course objectives
The subject focuses on the theoretical background in the field of pathopsychology seen from the point of view of variability and pathology of the human mind. Students will be guided to understand and remember - in a logical way - the basic topics and understand the linkages between different fields of the subject; they should be able to analyze the basic principles and use them is a real life situations; they should understand the links between pathopsychology and further supportive fields (special pedagogy, psychopathology, social pathology, developmental psychology, etc.). At the end of the course, the students should be able to understand the discrepancies of the mental functions create a mock diagnosis (syndrome) and interpret the behaviour of a client.

  • 1) Definition of the subject of psychopathology, its position in the range of psychology.
  • 2) Reasons for mental disorders, heritability of the psychic characteristics and the society influence, the question of being “standard”, pathic x non pathic disorders, syndrome x symptom.
  • 3) History of psychopathology and psychiatry in the Czech Republic and in the world.
