- The course introduces various topics such as lifelong learning, education and activation of adults and seniors. Students will get familiar with important issues concerning both andragogy and gerontagogy. They will notice crossovers of these disciplines into the field of social work, multicultural education, social pedagogy etc. Andragogy also relates to particular target groups, for instance to the socially excluded, migrants and minorities. It covers lifelong learning, didactics theory of education, principles, methods and forms of education of adults, its communication process, self-education, adults (in) leisure time, non-traditional didactic systems, retraining, motivation factors to learning, distant study, profession education, functions of education in post-productive age, phenomena of age and seniors activation. The course also covers social situation of selected senior groups and ageism. Students gain knowledge of these topics, which they can practically apply. Profession education, activation, communication, didactics, education principles, distant education, lifelong learning, seniors activation, education of seniors, ageism, comparative andragogy, social movement. In the seminars the students examine social mobility and changes of life chances of social society and they will react to them. They will reflect particular topics, they will study democratization in society together with growth of opportunities to social up-rise of an individual. Further possible topics may be: employment, roles of education and enterprise, changes in life chances and their perception, education in post-productive age, social situation of seniors in our country and abroad, population ageing etc. Adults education abroad – trends, offers, possibilities, fields of profession and distant study.

- Course objectives

- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course the students will be able to: • define the objectives of andragogy, have an overview of historical relations of andragogy in context of social movement • understand the didactic methods of andragogy and apply them practically as well as the issue of communication in andragogy • have a glimpse of profession education • outline and form a project in a team, to present the project outline • focus on their own lifelong learning • experience the field of seniors activation, get familiar with the situation of seniors in society in context of gerontagogy
- Syllabus
- Overview: 1. Andragogy, its importance and intentions, current situation in adults education, trends in andragogy. Andragogy definition, historical context, social movement as an important factor for andragogy forming. Adults education as a social movement. 2. Lifelong learning and education in context of contemporary society in our county and abroad, difference between lifelong learning and education. Trends in lifelong learning. 3. Didactic theory of adults education, didactic forms, didactic methods, didactic dice, didactic principles in education, pyramid of listening, projecting. Phases of creative process, projection in andragogy. 4. Adults education as a communication process, assertive attitude, creativity of an adult, alternative methods in adults education. 5. Self-education of adults, leisure time of adults, adults in their leisure time. Various alternatives of self-education. 6. Retraining possibilities, current situation in job market, unemployment and retraining, offers of educational programmes for adults (in prisons, social work etc.) 7. Age as a society phenomena, gerontagogy as a future discipline. Basic knowledge of psychology of ageing, philosophical context and sociology of ageing, functions of education in post-productive age, universities of the third age, senior clubs, seniors activation. 8. Further topics considering senior population, seniors and particular social issues, seniors in facilities, ageism. 9. Comparative andragogy, adults education in selected countries, adults education in the countries of the Third World. 10. Basics of profession education, enterprise education, distant study, historical context, outline of distant text. Projecting as a part of profession of social educator, project outline.

- Class discussion, group projects, presentations by professionals in the sectors, homework, reading
- Assessment methods
- The students submit a paper, see distant part of study. Furher aim of the course is to outline a project as a team work. The project tries to find solutions to a topic chosen from the field of adults education. The students will get familiar with the principles of projecting and within their group they work on the given task (outline of description, log-frame, project budget etc. ) The projects will be presented and evaluated at the end of the course. In the distant part of the lessons the students complete the tasks given by the lecturer in the e-learning course. Among others, the work on a paper of the required extent and submit the paper via e-learning course of the particular subject until the deadline given in the course.
