- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to give a basic overview of the geography of agriculture and industry.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course the student will be able to understand the patterns of distribution of agricultural and industrial production, explain the positive and negative impacts of agriculture and industry in the countryside, use relevant data to analyze the evolution and status of agriculture and industry.
- Syllabus
- 1. Genesis and roots of social and economic geography, its position in the system of science, relation with other disciplines. Introduction to geography of agriculture.
- 2. Localisation factors of agriculture.
- 3. Agriculture in the world.
- 4. Common Agricultural Policy of the EU.
- 5. Impact of agriculture on environment. Other production branches (fishery and forestry). Hunger in the world.
- 6. Introduction into geography of industry. Classification of industry. Evaluation of industry.
- 7. Localisation factors of industry – genesis, development and present importance.
- 8. Characteristics of industrial branches - extraction of raw materials, iron and steel industry, energetic.
- 9. Characteristics of industrial branches - engineering, chemical, textile, food and wood industry.
- 10. Other industrila branches.
- 11. History of „modern“ industry – high tech.

- Handing on protocols in time and in adequate quality. Without submitting protocols it is not possible to pass the exam.
Final written exam usually consists of 12 open-ended questions rated with 12 points. It is necessary to gain at least 7 points for successful completion of an exam. Written test may be replaced by an oral examination. - Language of instruction
