- Course objectives
- This course is a continuation of VMKA from the previous semester which was devoted to an overview of cultural differences, their manifestations and consequences. In this, the second half of the course, the focus is on concrete aspects of culture, specific cultural comparisons and how to introduce these concepts into real-life classrooms. Each student will make a presentation modeling the methodology of dealing with culture in his/her own classroom situation - which will then be uploaded onto the class forum for all to use.
The aim of this course is: to provide (future and current) teachers of English with the awareness of culture and cultural differences necessary for effective language teaching in the 21st century; to support them in designing and developing culturally relevant lesson plans for their own classrooms; and to provide each individual the material, supervision and support to integrate culture into their English language teaching. - Learning outcomes
- By the end of the course, students will be able to: create a lesson plan suitable for teaching cultural topics assess fellow students' lessons and plans show awareness and understanding of a range of cultural topics

- Teaching methods
- Each student will make a presentation modeling the methodology of how to introduce concrete aspects of culture and cultural differences, in his/her own classroom situation, followed by questions and feedback from his/her classmates and teacher.
- Assessment methods
- 3rd year students: 1)Attendance: Two absences are permitted. Three or more will mean loss of credit
2)Reading and analysis of books and their discussion in the seminar.
3)Presentation of cultural methodology appropriate for the presenter's English language teaching situation
4)Comprehensive oral exam covering information from both semesters of the course 1st year students: Moodle Quizzes: 4*5=20% (Weeks 2,3,4 and 5) Project1 15% (5%forum activity on W7, 5%for presenting the discussion in class, 5% for time capsule) Project 2 25% (15% for the visual story, 10% for conference presentation) Participation 20% (10% in class, 10% online forum activity) Online tasks of W9 and W10 20% (dangers of a single story 10, lost in translation 10) - Language of instruction
