Course objectives
Students will:
- study principles of teaching skills based on the concept of communicative approach in foreign language teaching;
- try individual methods and techniques via micro-teaching and will assess their effectivity;
- choose, critically evaluate and adopt teaching as well as authentic materials for their lessons;
- study different types of assessment and assessment tools;
- use their teaching portfolios to reflect their professional development.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to:
- use methods and techniques of teaching skills based on communicative approach in their teaching practice;
- defend the usage of the methods and techniques referring to theoretical recourses;
- choose, critically evaluate and adopt teaching as well as authentic materials for their lessons;
- recognize the reasons for their learners' assessment and choose an appropriate assessment type for different purposes;
- choose and use different types of assessment tools appropriate for diagnosing learners' progress;
- create teaching portfolio during the whole semester;
- use the teaching portfolio to reflect their professional development.

  • 1 Creative procedures in language teaching.
  • 2 Listening strategies.
  • 3 Preparing and analyzing a listening test from the point of view of methodology and language.
  • 4 Speaking.
  • 5 Speaking: interaction.
  • 6 Reading: text analysis. Teacher profile (written assessment).
  • 7 Reading: reading strategies including development of extensive reading.
  • 8 Writing as a process.
  • 9 Giving feedback to writing.
  • 10 Integrating skills while preparing for a lesson.
  • 11 Basic ways of evaluation and assessment. Learner profile (written assignment).
  • 12 Alternative assessment tools. Analysis and evaluation of a portfolio.
