- Course objectives
- The subject is focused to the:
(a) characteristic marks of contemporary spoken Czech in various communicative situation;
(b) characteristic marks of contemporary spoken Czech in accordance with regional lingual customs or in accordance with the customs of social group or with the age of the speakers;
(c) acquainting the students with the authentic spoken texts studying records of them and they will identify special sound (vowel- and consonantal) and teaching the students to identify grammatical marks that differ the variety of the spoken language in various regions and standard and non-standard speech. - Learning outcomes
- After finishing the subject/course students are able to:
- describe spoken texts;
- explain the differences between written and spoken text and connection of the texts and communicative situation;
- distinguish standard and non-standard spoken texts and colloquial Czech and non-standard (vernacular or slang) speech;
- to evaluated non-cultivated and non-standard speech of pupils and to explain why the standard Czech is needed in formal speech and in formal situation. - Syllabus
- 1. Communication, communicative situations. Spoken and written texts. Prepared and unprepared spoken texts in various communicative situations.
- 2. Czech language in its variety. Standard Czech and its stylish variety. Colloquial Czech as a stylish variant of the standard Czech.
- 3. Monolog and dialog. Structure of dialog. Contact words and the function of them.
- 4. Characteristics or some special communicative situation. Dialog with the shop assistants in the stores; dialog with the waiters the pub; dialog with the driver in the bus, dialog with the conductor; dialog with the physician; dialog of the pupils with the teacher. Spoken Czech in variable communicative situation.
- 5. Sentential structure of the spoken texts. Characteristic sentential structure of the spoken texts compare to the written texts: (a)additionall structures in the end of sentence, correction of the utterance; (b) repetition of the words and structures, paralells, stereotypes of structure.
- 6. Sentential structure of the spoken texts. (a) additionall structures with the "preparative" function, filling words; (b) unfinished/incomplete sentences.
- 7. Speaking and cultivation of speech.Characteristic marks of spoken Czech in the teaching Czech as a foreign language.

- Lecture with the illustrative presentation.
Collective analysis of the records of spoken texts. Individual works with the records of spoken Czech. - Assessment methods
- Student shall be able to analyse records of spoken texts from sound (vowel and consonantal), morphological and sentential points of view and to identify a shortcoming concerning the cultivated speech. Students will analysed texts together with other students of the group at the last lecture. The texts will be presented at first lecture.
