Course objectives
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
(1) understand and explain the basic picture about vertebrates body organization;
(2) characteristic of chordate taxons;
(3) identify to common Czech chordates;
(4) use observational methods for chordates;
(5) know use observational methods in nature conditions too;
(6) complete the competence of determinate important species in CR;
(7) apply these skills in the preparation of a chordate collection.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- to characterize of changes of body composition in taxon;
- to know bionomie of model species;
- to determine of common species vertebrates, its ecological use and relations on ecosystems;
Syllabus
  • Lectures 1. Phylogenetic systém. 2. Chordates versus vertebrates, Cephalochordata with archaetypal signes, Urochordata. 3. Vertebrata - basic body organization of taxons, species. Bionomie. A) Lower vertebrates. B) Cyclostomata. 4. Characteristics of taxons: 4A) Chondrichthyes. 4B) Actinopterygii and 4C) Sarcopterygii (Choanichthyes). 5. Amphibia. 6. Reptilia. 7. Aves (Palaeognathae a Neognathae). 8. Mammalia. 9. Vertebrates in ecosystems. Practice Basic picture about vertebrates body organization, acquire of determinate competences important vertebrates species in CR, its bionomie. 1. Cyclostomata + Actinopterygii 2. Amphibia 3. Reptilia 4. Aves 5. Mammalia 6. Vertebrates in different ecosystems

Teaching methods
Lectures and practice (laboratory biometrie, individual projects of model vertebrate bionomie - students presentation (PPP), class discussion, laboratory determination of vertebrates, observation and determination of vertebrates in ecosystems)
Assessment methods
Final grade: examination (morfology and anatomy, bionomie and ecology, systematics of chordates). Type of Completion: credit - knowledge our vertebrate species (5 groups - fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals) - records of measure and other activities
