- Course objectives
- In this subject, which draws upon the topics from the Czech literature of the first half of the 19th century, students will learn about the main values of the Czech literature of the second half of the 19th century. In the course of the term they write an assignment that deals with a topic from the given period. They will also present the results of their literary-historical and literary-critical studies orally in the seminars.
- Learning outcomes
- After finishing the course, students will be able to:
- identify basic features of artistic movements and literary groups of the given era;
- identify and analyze styles of important figures of the literary process in the give era;
- describe the cultural and social atmosphere in the Czech lands and in Europe;
- interpret the contemporary literary works based on their theoretical knowledge;
- create and present an expert essay about the given topic. - Syllabus

- Teaching methods
- In the form of a seminar,students will use and enhance their knowledge of literary trends and movements in Czech literature of the studied period. They will be able to identify and analyze the style of outstanding personalities of Czech poetry and prose. They will further develop their literary knowledge and interpretational skills with the aim to communicate with a literary work more effectively and evaluate its various aspects. They will creatively use their knowledge gained not only in contact classes but also in their individual study of recommended literature which they will be able to discuss regularly with their teacher.
- Assessment methods
- Discipline is conclusing with verbal examination. Conditions of admission to examination are an active participation in the seminars and a seminary written work.
