Prerequisites
Course includes instruction in the form of exercise. In the exercises, students learn the basic knowledge and skills related to the growing selection of garden plants. Students learn the functions of faculty educational gardens and gardens significance for the educational process in elementary school, become familiar with the necessary tools and implements, with the recommended crop plants at primary school. Extend a basic knowledge and skills on growing vegetables, fruit, ornamentals, field and weed plants. Their knowledge and skills students will verify within a project teaching or integrated thematic instruction, which will work with children 2nd grade elementary school to faculty teaching garden. Teaching is complemented by practical experiments and observations in nature, which are designed to allow them to realize a limited instrumentation and show the possibilities of use for basic education.

Course objectives
After completing the course, students will be able to: - phenological observations performed during the spring and summer months; - carry out regular activities related to the care of the faculty teaching garden in the spring; - to ensure basic conditions and procedures for growing selection of garden plants; - identify a user to sort the vegetables, fruit, ornamentals, field and weeds; - propose a plan of sowing flower bed realizable combined with pupils 2nd grade elementary school; - implement and organize care for a combined bed with pupils 2nd grade elementary school; - work with professional literature study focused on the cultivation, processing and use of garden plants; - use appropriate work equipment, tools and maintain them; - observe technological discipline, hygiene and safety, provide first aid in case of injury in the garden, or. contact with toxic, allergenic or otherwise dangerous plants.
Learning outcomes
- student is able to observe natural phenomena in the garden in the long term - the student is able to record and interpret his observation results from his observations - the student is able to perform the usual activities related to garden care in the spring months - the student is able to cultivate, nurture and choose appropriate working practices for garden plants - the student is able to provide first aid, adhere to the principles of hygiene and work safety - the student is able to use appropriate work tools, tools and maintenance
Syllabus
  • Exercises outline: 1. Introduction to the faculty teaching garden, the safety and health at work in the garden; 2. Functions school garden and its importance for education in elementary school, organization, equipment and organization of work in the garden; 3rd Vegetable - growing, the importance of health, planning and organization of work in the garden; 4. Vegetables - seeds and seedlings, custom sorting, crop rotation, buildings (greenhouse, plastic greenhouse, greenhouses) - training in job skills - sowing, propagation, pointing planting; 5. Fruit plants - classification, origin, description, classification, reproduction - job training and cultivation skills - treating fruit plants (cut, grafting, inoculation); 6. Practical training for faculty teaching garden - seedbed finish by kitchen and ornamental flower beds, skills training - raking, weeding, surveying; 7th Field crops - cereals, root crops, pulses, oilseeds, fiber plants, fodder; 8. Basic horticulture - meaning and use, propagation, cultivation of ornamental plants - annuals, biennials, perennials, bulbs and onions, ornamental trees; 9. Practical training for teaching garden - work with children of primary school; 10. Excursion - Medicinal Herbs Center Faculty of Medicine; 11. Practical lessons in the school garden - planting and sowing vegetables on faculty teaching garden; 12th weed plants and their meaning and usage.

Teaching methods
Theoretical training, practical work, mentoring, field trips.
Assessment methods
Ongoing: - participation in at least 10 exercises (80% participation); - processing phenological calendar (a calendar of nature); - preparation and implementation of the training program with pupils 2nd grade elementary school to faculty teaching garden; - The student demonstrates ability to apply the acquired knowledge and skills in practical activities on the faculty teaching garden. Finally: - student during the practical test and final test demonstrates the ability to recognize basic representative of each group of garden plants (vegetables, fruit plants, ornamental plants, medicinal plants, herbs, weeds, field crops).
