- Course objectives
- Russian literature includes Russian literature of the 19th century, in this century it came to the stormy development, not only in the literature which largely substituted other kinds of social sciences; but also in history, culture etc. Within this century it came to the development of the modern Russian language and so-called "catching up" of European literary development. Russian classical literature became world classics, knowledge of it is essential for future teachers. Lectures focus on key literary currents and significant authors. It deepens, expands and complements the bachelor's degree subject Russian Classical Literature I.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course the students understand the periodization of Russian literary development in the 19th century; they understand the specifics of particular literary currents; they are able to include specific authors into periodization; they know writers´ style; they can briefly characterize the specifics of selected works of Russian writers; use theoretical knowledge in work with texts; they combine their knowledge of history with the development of Russian literature and its leading personalities.

- Teaching methods
- The subject will be taught in the form of lectures. Students will elaborate on a topic that relates to the literary work of one of the authors of the 20th century. When working on the topic the student must use at least 3 sources of secondary literature.
