- Course objectives
- Upon completion of the course the students will understand the basic health promotion strategies and be able to explain them in the context of the demographic situation and the health status of the population of the Czech Republic. The students will be able to assess health promotion educational programmes and develop their own health promotion strategies according to defined criteria (age of children, project focus, environment of implementation, etc.)
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course the students will: be able to formulate the main issues relating to human health, its protection and promotion; be able to define major prevention programmes in the world and in the Czech Republic; understand the significance of minimum prevention programmes, be able to analyse them according to specific school conditions; be able to describe possible interventions in various developmental stages; be able to assess the necessity of cooperation between health professionals, psychologists and educators; be able to actively search for new information and perform a critical analysis of such information.
- Syllabus
- 1. Health of the population, research studies in the area of health and disease. Demographic development of the population; 2. Long-term programme aimed at improving the health of the population of the Czech Republic. Effectiveness of primary disease prevention; 3. European health policy after the 21st century. National strategy for health protection and promotion and disease prevention – Health 2020; Health 2030. 4. Comprehensive health promotion programmes in the school environment. Health promoting school (HPS) programme; Safe school. 5. Current curricular and extra-curricular health promotion programmes (international educational projects, regional projects, comprehensive projects, specifically targeted projects); 6. Strategies of drafting health promotion programmes.

- Teaching methods
- The course is delivered in the form of seminars. Students shall assess various health promotion programmes and discuss them, analyse selected elementary schools in terms of the pillars of the Health promoting schools programme, draft health promotion projects for elementary schools.
