Course objectives
Upon completion of the course the students will be able to explain the basic terms in the area of swimming, have good command of hygienic and safety principles of swimming, and be able to use them in practice. The students will be able to introduce non-swimmers to the water environment in a playful way, decrease their fear of water, define and apply the basic pre-swimming skills including cautious familiarization with the water environment as a basis for future training of various swimming styles in a suitable form and with regard to the peculiarities of teaching preschool children.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the students will be able to understand, explain and use the basic knowledge of physical education with a focus on pre-swimming preparation and water games; the students will be able to use the knowledge and skills in the development of physical abilities and skills in preschool children and will be able to rescue a drowning child.
Syllabus
  • 1. Basic swimming terms, principles of swimming hygiene and safety, preparatory exercises on dry land. 2. – 5. Preparatory exercises and games to become familiar with water and to practice orientation in water, floating, exhaling in water. 6. Falls and jumps into water in an enjoyable way observing safety principles. 7. – 8. Upper and lower limbs in swimming – gradual and natural introduction the movement of the upper and lower limbs in crawl, backstroke and breaststroke. 9. – 10. Training of coordination in a selected swimming style (crawl, backstroke, breaststroke). 11. Principles of assistance to a tired swimmer, rescuing a drowning person. 12. Summary of the learning content, achievement of credit requirements.

Verbal, demonstrative, and practical.
Assessment methods
Active participation in lessons. Demonstration of swimming skills over a distance of 100 m with a time limit of 3 minutes, knowledge of water games.
