Course objectives
Students will learn to work with their voice, explore its possibilities, understand and imitate little nuances in meaning changed by intonation. They will be introduced to current tendencies in colloquial English from the phonological point of view and they will analyze various intonation patterns in speeches of various registers. Students will develop their speaking and listening skills through practice.
Learning outcomes
Students will be more aware of the subtle differences in meaning and interpretation of utterances in English; ideally, they will be able to employ their voices in a native-like manner. They will practise various intonation patterns and understand their usage, they will be made aware of the difference between the common Czech/Slovak and English tones. They will produce their own recording of reading a dialogue (in pairs) and a story (solo). They will conclude with an audio project: BBC or CNN news broadcast.
