- Course objectives
- The goal of the course is to acquire basic knowledge of general stylistics and stylistically correct written expression. Special attention will be paid to comparative aspects of Czech and French languages, especially concerning phonostylistics and translation. Different stylistic figures will be analyzed and theoretical knowledge will be applied in practice. The course is based on the selection of the chapters concerning stylistic expressions in specialized texts from the fields of business, art, journalistic, publicity and current conversations. The texts will be analyzed on the phonetic, graphic, morphologic, syntactic, lexical and textual level. In the seminars, the students are taught to analyze the texts in a critical manner and are at the same time the students learn to write their own texts and compare specific opinions on the discussed issues. Emphasis is placed on the use of linguistic knowledge and skills gained thanks to the courses of Morphology, Phonetics, Syntax and Lexicology.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, the students: -gain basic knowledge of general stylistics -adopt stylistically correct discourse -are able to compare aspects of French and Czech languages concerning phonostylistics and translation -are able to analyze different stylistic figures -are able to apply their knowledge and skills in practice

Text grammar (text coherence). 6.Denotation, connotation in the context of studied languages. 7.Stylistic figures: comparison, metaphor, metonymy, synechoke, antithesis, eufemism, litotes, pleonasm, calamba, anaphora, gradation, ellipse ...
