Course objectives
Students gain knowledges about genre in folk music, function of the song, regional types of songs in the Czech Republic, instrumental music. They explore issues of collecting of songs tradition. One part of seminar is parallel search efforts in folk and artificial music and other kinds of art.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, which is designed as an introduction to ethnomusicological issue, the student will be able to understand the basic concepts, the systematics of the branch. The student should be able to recognize the regional types of songs, instrumental music. He should be able to search for parallels in the area of folk and artificial culture.
Syllabus
  • Work with musically folklore sources, collectional fund coming from the constituent ethnographic regions of the Czech Republic.
  • Listening of recordings of folk songs and instrumental music.
  • Foklor parallels in art music, literature and visual art.
  • Basic terms, systematics, classification.
  • Kinds and genres of folklore, functions of songs.
