Course objectives
The content of the subject is closely related and is connected with the teaching discussed in Didactic practice of Music Education 1. Students will be acquainted with the appropriate methods and steps for the development of instrumental activities, tonal feeling and practice of polyphonic song. Attention is paid to the application of the tonal song method in practice. The subject aims to teach students to apply different instrumental accompaniments, the tonal song´s method and intonation techniques in practice, in connection with other musical activities.
Learning outcomes
Student:
- is able to create thematic units and knows how to apply them in practice (such as an arrangement of Music lessons);
- is able to implement aural exercises in practice;
- is able to apply the tonal song´s method and intonation techniques in practice, in connection with other musical activities (melodization, the rhythm of opening and closure of melody, finished and unfinished melody, etc.);
- acquires Methodological training of homophonic song - the practice by using intonation approach and combination of imitation and intonation approach; methodological training of polyphonic songs;
- is able to create simple instrumental accompaniments to mastered songs;
- will create a PowerPoint Presentation about selected musical instrument along with a worksheet for theoretical musical phenomena;
- acquires basic timing skills (e.g. conducting) and apply them when working with children;
- demonstrates her/his skills playing the soprano recorder
Syllabus
  • Basic concepts of Didactics of Music:
  • - curriculum documents – National Key Stage, School Key Stage, Class curriculum, Individual teaching curriculum, class book, class register, catalogue sheet
  • - conditions for teaching, equipment and time subsidies at different schools
  • - creating thematic units and their application in the lesson
  • - arrangement of Music lessons
  • - a personality of the Music teacher
  • - evaluation and classification
  • Perceptive Activities: Intonation and Aural Training. Methods of Intonation: Solmization; Čestmír Staněk: The Number method; The Ku-ku method; Fr. Lýsek; L. Daniel: Tonal song method - tone height, melody movement and diatonic procedures; starts without tonal support; supporting songs. Developing a tonal feeling.
  • Methodological training of homophonic song - practice by using intonation approach and combination of imitation and intonation approach; methodological training of polyphonic songs.
  • Implement aural exercises in practice.
  • Creation a PowerPoint Presentation about selected musical instrument along with a worksheet for theoretical musical phenomena;
  • Master the basics of playing the soprano recorder.
  • Conducting in 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 time (upbeat, canon).č

Teaching methods
Practical preparation: singing – breathing, vocal and aural exercises, supporting songs – accompanied by elementary musical instruments and conducting. Playing the piano/violin and soprano recorder; Body sounds. Creating a PowerPoint Presentation about selected musical instruments and a worksheet for theoretical musical phenomena and presenting them within a seminar.

Completion: examination
a) For the final examination, students will show their theoretical knowledge and practical skills acquired in the Didactic practice of Music Education 1 to 2, such as singing, conducting, playing piano/violin and recorder, etc.
b) A minimum of 80% active participation in seminars.
c) Writing a PowerPoint Presentation about a selected musical instrument and a worksheet for theoretical musical phenomena.
d) Mastering the basics of playing the soprano recorder (C Major, D Major, G Major, F Major); 2 folk songs.
e) 6 folk songs (2 of them polyphonic songs), four artificial songs: singing, playing the piano/ violin – transposition of one song to major 3rd (up and down); conducting.
f) For one folk and one artificial song to elaborate a detailed methodological procedure for subsequent work with the song.
