Course objectives
This course explores those areas of English pronunciation that Czech students of English find difficult. Students are able to work with authentic materials, mimicking and drill help Ss to reach this higher level of pronunciation. Students are also trained to transcribe heard and seen text, and to enhance their ability to transfer our classroom materials to the primary school environment. Self-study is a crucial part of this course. Throughout the semester students are encouraged to link theory in the classroom to practice at schools via practical tasks.
Learning outcomes
The student: - has established his/her pronunciation of the phonemic system (according to IPA); - is able to transcribe longer utterances; - is able to read longer utterances written in transcription; - is able to give a presentation on how to read an English book to a child and is able to support this presentation with materials used as a part of his/her teaching practice experience; - knows basis terminology focusing on the suprasegmental area of pronunciation; - knows where the materials used in the lessons come from and is able to look for similar materials; - is able to reflect on his/her own pronunciation on not only the segmental level but also on the suprasegmental level; - is able to apply gained knowledge. Learning about phonetics and phonology can help students become better pronunciation models, get familiar with teaching English pronunciation and prepare better for possible opportunities of teaching English to their future pupils.

Assessment methods
Requirements: a) at least 3 x readings (Reading progress)- (at least 2 of which minimum of 80%) b) journal (an entry for each lesson - at least 100 words, at least 10 entries) - level B2, focused on phonetics; Reflective journal c) TPT = teaching practice task (read one of the books to a child, write a short report) d) create a jazz chant -video e) written credit test.
