Course objectives
The course offers additional exercises covering the material of the lectures “Linguistics for Teachers”. The aim is to consolidate and deepen the material dealt with in the lecture through practical exercises. In addition, the exercises offer a forum in which students can discuss their personal experiences with teaching and learning foreign languages, applying the linguistic concepts presented in the lectures. A further aim of the exercises is to help students prepare for the final exam held at the end of the lectures.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students should be able
- to characterize the different linguistic disciplines on which modern foreign language didactics are based;
- to applicate the linguistic concepts introduced during the lectures to concrete material found in textbooks of German as a foreign language,
- to analyse and interpret authentic language material in order to find out rules and regularities holding in the foreign language;
- to make reasoned decisions on material to be choose for foreign language classes at a certain level.
In addition, students acquire a critical attitude towards normative statements concerning language and language use.
