Course objectives
• Acquisition of systematic knowledge of methods of foreign language learning and teaching research in the school and out-school context (with regard to language and education policy);
• the ability to apply the acquired knowledge to the choice of research methods in the subject and design of their own empirical study within the bachelor thesis or master thesis
Learning outcomes
The student:
• has an overview of methods of research on learning and teaching foreign languages;
• understand the relationship between the research problem and its theoretical anchor, between research methods and tools; • is able to anchor theoretical knowledge in the context of his / her didactic research;
• can plan a research project.

Assessment methods
The course can be completed either with a 'zápočet' or a 'kolokvium.' For completion with a 'zápočet' (2 credits): Presentation of the design of a research project. For completion with a 'kolokvium' (4 credits): Presentation of the design of a research project and submission of a written project draft.
Náhradní absolvování
Students on a study abroad program will have their ISP (Individual Study Plan) recognized, and they will be allowed to fulfill the requirements (after agreement with the instructors at the beginning of each semester) through distance learning. Possible recognition of the course (for a course at the host university) should be discussed with the lecturer before the start of the semester.
