Course objectives
The focus of the course is on developing the ability to work with dramatic texts in the foreign language classroom through active participation in a theater production.
Learning outcomes
The students gain practical experience in staging dramatic texts in a foreign language, develop their skills in working with German-language texts and their interpretation on stage, and learn techniques for applying drama pedagogy in foreign language teaching.
Syllabus
  • Learning videos on the topics "Drama and Theater as Places of Inclusion" and "Drama Pedagogy" + self-study tasks
  • Reading of Marius von Mayenburg's Märtyrer in self-study
  • Philological analysis of the play: Overview of the author and the play
  • Working on three selected scenes from different perspectives
  • Learning video on the tasks of translation/subtitling
  • Translation work on the scenes or converting the play into prose form
  • Summer school in Katowice – active participation in the theater production

Blended learning course
Assessment methods
Active participation in the preparation phase during the semester (blended learning, 3 meetings and self-learning phase) as well as participation in the summer school in Katowice (May 25–30, 2025).
Náhradní absolvování
Students on a study abroad program will have the ISP (Individual Study Plan - blended learning phase) recognized, and they will be allowed to meet the requirements (as agreed with the instructors at the beginning of the respective semester) in a distance learning format. Details about the possibility of taking the course during a study abroad period can be found in the interactive curriculum. However, participation in the summer school is mandatory.
