- Course objectives
- The goal of seminar is to systematize and consolidate knowledge of discipline Russian syntax 1; to exercise learning in course Syntax I topics on practical language material. The seminar will also focus on the similarities and differences at comparative Russian-Czech aspect.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course the student will be able to categorize syntactic phenomena of Russian language, to show differences in the construction of sentences in Russian and Czech languages, to apply knowledge creatively, to use the acquired information to improve the ability to adequately translate from Czech into Russian and vice versa.
- Syllabus
- 1. Specifying syntactic relations in the Russian text.
- 2. Analysis of sentence main elements. Comparison with Czech language.
- 3. Determination of developing sentence elements. Ways of expression in Russian.
- 4. Analysis of one-element sentence and two-elements sentence.
- 5. Comparison of incomplete sentences and elliptical sentences.
- 6. Analysis of constructions with multiple sentence parts.
- 7. Analysis sentences with separated sentence parts, semipredicative structures and introductory words.
- 8. Word order. Comparison of word order in Russian and Czech sentences.
- 9. Analysis and classification of syndetic sentences. Analysis of coordinate sentences.
- 10. Determining of complex sentences with subordinate clauses.
- 11. Analysis and classification of asyndetic sentences.
- 12. Analysis of the sentences with different types of syntactic connection. Practice of punctuation in complex and compound sentences.
