The teaching takes place in the form of a two-day workshop. Full-time and combined study students take it together.

Course objectives
Annotation: The subject play with a marionette is before all concieved as a preparation for communication in practice, where is possible to use a marionette to communicate with children. The stress is with the help of etudes with tools laid on development of imagination and creativity. Tools and also marionetts cen by its signs of acting offer variet range of human types and thats why the attention is given to play with a tool and marionette in etudes. The subject is concluded with a short group performance with the object/puppet in front of the audience.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able:
Identify different types of puppets.
Express the drama acts through the play with a puppet.
Present the final result of the puppet play.

  • Metaphor.
  • Tool - thing and observing of its signs.
  • Picking up of the tool, what it says about its self.
  • Speech and acting of a tool.
  • Marionette – play with marionette.
  • Improvization with tolls and marionette.
  • Figure marionette and its stylization.
  • Tool – thing and observing of its signs. Screenplay for puppet theatre.
  • Effect of puppet theatre on the child.

Náhradní absolvování
n the case of a study abroad trip, it is possible to take the course in an alternative form. The learner either takes a 2-day workshop of his/her choice on the topic of puppetry and communication; or he/she takes a 16-hour internship in a domestic or foreign organisation(s) that uses puppetry as a means of communication when working with target groups (note that this is not a puppet theatre performance). An example of good practice is e.g. Theatre Without Rules (Brno). The learner will keep a reflective diary and consult their experience with the course supervisor.
