Course objectives
The aim of this course is to become familiar with the basics of Czech which is necessary for pharmaceutical and medical professionals. The course will provide students with basic knowledge of Czech grammar, vocabulary and communication phrases as well as the simple terminology used for the basic patient´s consultancy and handling with medical prescriptions.

Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the students should be able to: - understand and use basic Czech phrases - hold a simple conversation in Czech - understand and apply basic Czech grammar rules
Syllabus
  • 1st Introduction into Czech studies, basic Czech greetings and basic social phrases, the verb "to be", Czech alphabet
    2nd Czech noun gender, personal pronouns, basic Czech phrases
    3rd Czech demonstrative pronouns, the verb "to have"
    4th Czech adjectives, conversation topic: My family
    5th Czech numerals, conversation topic: Orientation in the town
    6th Possessive pronouns, conversation topic: Supermarket
    7th Czech verb system - present tense, conversation topic: Restaurant, Coffee bar
    8th Conversation topic: University VFU in Brno
    9th Czech accusative, conversation topic: Brno - the place where I study
    10th Czech plural, conversation topic: The Czech Republic
    11th Modal verbs, conversation topic: The country which I come from
    12th Adverbs of place, conversation topic: Travelling, Hotels
    13th Final credit test

1. A test including multiple-choice and short answer questions, translation and gap filling tasks. 2. An oral exam in the form of a simple conversation in Czech.
