- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge of the immune system and the essential mechanisms that apply in the defense of the organism. During the course, the basics of immunopathology are also explained. This course also emphasizes vaccines, their history, development and composition.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, students will be able to understand the principles of immunology and be able to define the role of individual parts of the immune system; describe principles of innate and adaptive immunity; understand the basic principles of the immune system pathology; understand immunomodulatory drugs; understand the history, development and composition of vaccines.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction, history and basic characteristics of immunology and the immune system.
- 2. Innate and adapted immune response.
- 3. T- and B-lymphocytes.
- 4. Phagocytes, inflammation, complement.
- 5. Antigens and antigen presentation.
- 6. Antibodies.
- 7. Cytokines and chemokines.
- 8. Defense against microorganisms.
- 9. Autoimmunity and immunodeficiencies.
- 10. Allergy and hypersensitivity.
- 12. Immunomodulatory drugs.
- 13. Vaccines - types, composition, development.
- 14. Vaccines - vaccination calendar, travel medicine.
