The subject is realized through consultations and self-study, assumes the mastering of the study literature and the understanding of the context. - Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is only offered to the students of the study fields the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Medicinal Chemistry (programme FaF, D-FCH) (2)
- Course objectives
- Molecular biology for DSP as a discipline which aims to study cellular biological processes at their molecular level. Learning outcomes of the course unit aim to acquaint the student with current trends and methods, especially for testing the bioactivity of natural substances at the molecular level.
- Learning outcomes
- Knowledge of molecular biology forming the basis for follow-up subjects Methods of molecular biology, Biotechnology of drugs, Exercises from drug biotechnology, Pharmacogenomics, Structure and evolution of genomes. After completing the course, the student will be able to: - identify and summarize important features on the structure of proteins and nucleic acids and the functions and relationships of information macromolecules in the transmission of genetic information; - describe the structure of prokaryotic and eukaryotic genomes, with mechanisms of replication, transcription, translation and regulation of gene expression; - describe the molecular mechanisms of mutagenesis, recombination and transposition, repair mechanisms and the molecular nature of carcinogenesis;
- Syllabus
- 1) Molecular biology and its position in biological sciences, milestones, personalities, central dogma of molecular biology
2) Information macromolecules, their structure, function and interaction in gene expression, genetic code.
