- Course objectives
- The spectrum of pharmaceuticals used in elderly people presents many significant changes, and generally has an upward trend to polypharmacotherapy. In this group of patients, problems like polymorbidity, nutrical problems and increased risk of non-compliance are typical. Changes in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in combination with this fact may lead to serious adverse side-effects and drug interactions. Geriatric pharmacotherapy has the potential to be therapeutic, but can also be toxic. The aim of the lectures is to point out the difficulties in choosing the appropriate therapy in the context of the development of pathophysiological changes in connection with higher age.
