Course objectives
Clinical Pharmacology deals with pharmacological applications, using nosological disease units as the basic classification criterion, to which basic pharmacology medicament selections that are aimed at the treatment of a specific pathophysiological condition are assigned. The course is intended to familiarize the students with the system of application of pharmacological findings to therapy and thus to build up a basis for searching for a common language with a physician.

Learning outcomes
The student will gain a more detailed look at the issue of clinical pharmacology. Students will get acquainted with the diversity of clinical pharmacology. The student will get acquainted with individualized pharmacotherapy.
Syllabus
  • 1. General introduction, basic terminology, therapeutic monitoring of drugs
    2. Basic clinical values examined in clinical biochemistry
    3. Clinical manifestations of adverse drug reactions, potentially inappropriate medication in old age
    4. Addictions to medical drugs.
    5. Pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic drug interactions
    6. Pharmacotherapy in pregnancy and lactation
    7. Pharmacotherapy of psychotic disorders
    8. Pharmacotherapy of depressions, anxiety and insomnia
    9. Pharmacotherapy of selected CNS diseases (Parkinson?s disease, multiple sclerosis Alzheimer?s disease, vascular dementia).
    10. Pharmacotherapy of allergic diseases, bronchial asthma.
    11. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, infectious diseases of the air passages
    12. Metabolic syndrome, obesity, disorders of lipid metabolism.
    13. Pharmacotherapy in diabetes mellitus, late complications of DM.
