- Course objectives
- In collaboration with prg.ai, we are running an international online course that introduces learners to artificial intelligence: - The course aims to educate 1% of the European Union population in the basics of artificial intelligence, - practical applications of AI in industry and everyday life, illuminating the basics of algorithms and neural networks, emphasis on critical thinking (pros and risks of AI), - accessible visuals and language, self-paced learning, - Upon completion, participants will receive an international digital certificate.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon successful completion of the online course, the student will understand: - What is autonomy and adaptability in the context of artificial intelligence - How the Turing test works - How to formulate a real-world problem in a form that is searchable - What is a neural network - What technical methods form the basis for neural networks - How challenging it is to predict the future - What are the main societal impacts of AI, including algorithmic bias, AI-generated content At least 90% of the assignments must be completed, of which at least 50% must be answered correctly, to earn the certificate.
- Syllabus
- Wondering how AI can impact your work or your life? Do you want to learn more about what AI is, how research is being done, and its practical applications? Do you want to understand how AI will evolve in the coming years and how it will affect our lives? The Elements of AI project is a series of online courses developed by MinnaLearn and the University of Helsinki. It aims to introduce the public to AI and show what it can and cannot achieve. In addition, participants in this course, which combines theory with practical tasks, will learn how they can start creating AI-based methods. The course can be taken at your own pace. The course is divided into six chapters: 1. What is Artificial Intelligence? 2. Solving problems with artificial intelligence 3. Artificial intelligence in the real world 4. Machine learning 5. Neural networks 6. Implications Each of the chapters contains text and interactive elements that are designed to support learning. The online course format will give students the opportunity to schedule the work at their own pace and time. The time commitment to complete the online course is in the range of approximately 50 hours, depending on prior knowledge of the topic and learning approach.
- Teaching methods
- homework
- Assessment methods
- A reflective questionnaire must be completed at the end of the semester for a successful evaluation. The course itself is not graded, but the number of assignments you have completed is tracked. To obtain the certificate you must complete at least 90% of the assignments, of which at least 50% must be answered correctly. Correctness is calculated as the average correctness of all the tasks completed (so all tasks have the same weight). Open answers are counted as 100% correct if they have been approved.
