- Course objectives
- The Chronology course provides a comprehensive overview of the chronology of Latin Christianity with special regard to the Czech lands. Its objective is to instruct students about the Julian and Gregorian calendars, the era system, cycles, beginnings of years, Easter and other important chronological data pertaining to the computation of Easter. The practical section is designed to determine certain dates within a year and compute incomplete dates. The Historical Metrology course provides a comprehensive overview of the relevant sources pertaining to its subject matter and brings an overview of the different measuring systems used in the Czech Republic throughout its history. Attention is also paid to the most important weights and measurements of the Old Czech and Lower Austrian system.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, students will be able to:
- understand the chronological data contained in diplomatic and narrative sources;
- convert all the dating methods previously used in this country into today’s dating method;
- supply missing data;
- identify supporting chronological data;
- convert the basic units of the Old Bohemian and Lower Austrian system of weights and measures into the metric system. - Syllabus
