Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the development of diplomatics from 1848 to the present day. It focuses on the diplomatics of political, financial and judicial administration in the Czech lands. There will be an emphasis on analysing the external and internal features of documents, the process of creating documents, their typology and understanding the internal operation of individual offices. With regard to the diversity of material and its originators, it is necessary to present all the processes of document creation in association with the development and changes in public administration.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
be conversant with modern public administration in terms of diplomatic production;
distinguish the mutual positions of individual issuers from examples of their written production;
understand the basic changes in the internal operations of individual offices, their methods of processing and storage of documents;
name the basic types of documents;
be conversant with the relevant literature.
Syllabus
  • Students will be introduced to the operation of offices of particular types of public administration since 1848, with a focus on public administration, financial administration and justice. Attention will be paid to understanding the internal operations of the individual offices and the analytical, genetic and systematic aspects of diplomatics will be studied. This subject will be introduced to students by means of a wide range of specific examples.
