- Course objectives
- Introduction into contemporary cultural, linguistic, religious, social and geopolitical processes in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Finland.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, students should be able to:
-understand and explain different definitions of the subject of Baltic studies and Baltic region itself;
- work with information on the history of Baltic languagues, their diachronical development and on contemporary socio-linguistical situation. - Syllabus
- 1) Geography of the Baltic region.
- 2) Baltic toponyms.
- 3) Cultural strata, religions and ethnicities in the Baltic region.
- 4) Geopolitical definition of Baltic region.
- These four thematic fields will be explained based on specific data from Lithuania, Latvia Finland and Estonia.

Two written reports - Assessment methods
- At the end of the semester, students must present two written reports on selected topics to the lecturer. After evaluation of both reports students are granted access to the final written exam.
