Course objectives
Structural linguistic interpretation of the Lithuanian language system. The entire volume is divided into 2 semesters.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- become familiar with the basic syntactic-morphological approaches to language;
- define parts of speech and identify them on a Lithuanian material;
- describe in detail grammatical categories of Lithuanian nominals and verbs;
- define parts of sentences and identify them on a Lithuanian material;
- describe syntactic structures and relations and identify them on a Lithuanian material
Syllabus
  • Introduction to Lithuanian morphology and syntax: terminology, references and resourses; briefly about different morpho-syntactic approaches to language
  • Lithuanian parts of speech: definition of parts of speech with an emphasis on similarities/differences between Lithuanian and Czech exercises on identifying the parts of speech
  • Morphology of nominals: grammatical categories of nouns, adjectives, pronouns; declination types
  • Morphology of verbs: grammatical categories of verbs; conjugation types
  • Lithuanian parts of sentences: definition of parts of a sentence with an emphasis on similarities/differences between Lithuanian and Czech; exercises on identifying the parts of sentences
  • Lithuanian syntactic relations: valence; congruence; coordination.
