- Course objectives
- The course offers insights into various forms of literature for young adult readers. It deals with the concept of young adult literature (fiction) on a theoretical level, but at the same time the dominant part of the semester will be focused on analyses, interpretations and also other (e.g. didactic) use of this type of literature.
- Learning outcomes
- After graduating the course, the student: - analyzes and interprets young adult fiction texts s using contemporary terminology; - briefly characterizes the development of this type of literature in Czech and world context; - explain the reasons for the different Czech and foreign approach to young adult literature; - actively plans and implements activities that lead to the development of readership s using young adult fiction.
- Syllabus
- The specific semester syllabus will be specified in the interactive course syllabus. In general, we will focus on: - the theory of young adult fiction and the position of this segment in the book market and in teenage readership - Classic representatives of young adult fiction in world literature - the current concept of "genre" in world literature - hints of the occurrence of young adult fiction in Czech literature before 1989 - The (non)existence of young adult fiction in Czech literature

- Assessment methods
- The student obtains credit if the following criteria are met: a) active participation in the seminar (requires home preparation), b) seminar presentation (he/she prepares a didactic or according to his/her professional specialization another method, procedure, tool for the selected book, how to convey the book to a specific target group), c) elaboration and submission of a reflective summary of his/her presentation by the end of the semester.
