- Course objectives
- The course introduces to the history of the Enlightenment theatre in Czechia as well as Europe. It will introduce essential personalities of theatre life and the most important theatrical and historical events.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course student will be able to:
- explain the influence of the European Enlightenment theatre to the professional theatre in Bohemia and in Moravia;
- identify the specifics of the theatre in the context of the Enlightenment reforms;
- describe differences between the approach towards Enlightenment in the individual European countries
- analyse the situation of the Czech professional theatre at the end of the 18th century;
- describe the differences of German and Czech professional theatre;
- understand the attempts of Czech Enlightenment scholars to create the national theatre culture. - Literature

- Černý, František a kol. Dějiny českého divadla, 2. díl, Academia, Praha 1969
- Teaching methods
- Lectures, class discussions, self-study of selected readings. The lectures are given in Czech, students are expected to have a solid command of the Czech language.
- Assessment methods
- Written test and/or oral exam. In order to pass the exam at least 70% of correct answers is required.
