- Course objectives
- The aim of the first part of the course "Roman Provinces" is to acquaint students with the general development of the Roman system of administration of territories outside Italy and the development of the boundaries of the Roman Empire from the Republic to the end of Antiquity.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course students will be able to describe in detail the development of the administration of Roman territories outside Italy through the whole span of Roman history, from the formation of first provinces until the end of the imperial title in the West.

- Introduction, working with the map
- Administration of provinces under the Republic: basic concepts, the emergence of first provinces and further acquisitions; the development of the administration up to the battle of Actium
- Field trip - Gerulata, Slovak National Museum
- The system of administration of provinces under the Principate; the territorial development of the Empire; the development of the relation provinces - Italy, the attitude of the emperors towards provinces
- The problem of Roman borders
- The system of administration of the Empire under the Dominate
