Course objectives
The aim of the course will be to introduce students to the phenomenon of court culture and courtly love in Europe during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Emphasis will be placed on the study and analysis of texts - Andreas Capellanus - De Amore (story of the ascension of the dead - I, 6), William of Poitiers, Chretien de Troyes - Cligés, G. Chaucer - Troilus and Criseyde, poetry of troubadours. The course is a supplement and extension to the topic of aesthetics of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
Learning outcomes
After passing the course, the student will be:; - able to describe the main characters of courtly culture; - describe the treatise De Amore; - write a typical courtly poem; - describe the chosen courtly literary work

  • The concept of courtly culture and courtly love. History of research on court culture (from 1893 to the present) Theories on the origin of courtly love The phenomenon of troubadours. Teaching methods
Every lecture requires homework preparation in reading the assigned study literature. After teacher's presentation of the general and particular features of the subject, students are guided to interpretation of the chosen extracts, and class discussions follow, self-study, reading weeks, preparation of homework assignments.
Assessment methods
The course will end with a test that lasts 30 minutes and contains 25 to 30 open-ended questions, 75% correct answers are required for successful completion.
Náhradní absolvování
In the case of foreign study, the course can be taken by self-study. After returning from the trip, you have to write a test.

General note: Předmět není určen posluchačům oboru filmová věda.
Information on course enrolment limitations: posluchači bc. estetiky, kteří začali své studium před více než třemi semestry, musí mít splněnu postupovou zkoušku (ESAPZE), jinak si tento předmět nemohou zapsat. Pro ostatní obory není zápis omezen.
