Course objectives
The course in introduces the issue of traditional handcrafted production and the selected handicraft activities (in terms of technological and socio-cultural aspects) as representatives of the major spheres of traditional production.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to describe the characteristics of traditional handicraft, to define its systematics (home handicraft production), and to relate its historical development. Based on the knowledge acquired through this course students should be able to conduct expert activities, organise exhibitions and to scientifically process this branch of traditional folk culture as well as the contemporary handicraft production.

  • Effort to preserve traditional folk production in the industrial society
  • Overview of selected processing technology by material
  • Natural wicker, wood processing

  • Folk professional groups with distinct culture (mining)
