Course objectives
The course focuses on the historical context that led to the institutionalization of Muslim communities, particularly in Germany and Austria in the second half of the 20th century. Attention will also be paid to the contemporary Czech context. Among the basic topics of the course are the building of mosques and other religious infrastructure, the issues of teaching Islam in schools, the relationship to non-believers, etc. The central point will therefore be the position of Islam as a significant element in the re-/reconstruction of European public space.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will know basic factual information about Islam in Western and Central Europe. They will be familiar with the institutionalization of Muslim communities in Western Europe in the second half of the 20th century, will be able to critically interpret textual and audiovisual presentations of Muslim communities, and will be able to independently analyze problems and other issues that arise in the integration of Muslims into European societies.

Assessment methods
The final written exam consists of two parts. The first part includes twelve multiple-choice questions based on compulsory literature, with a maximum of 1 point for each correct answer. The second part consists of six open-ended questions related to the material covered in lectures, with a maximum of 3 points for each answer. The overall grading scale is as follows: A (30-27), B (26-24), C (23-21), D (20-18), E (17-15).
