Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce a specific tendency in the silent cinema - production of national epic dramas in European countries in 1910s and 1920s. Lectures will provide to students an overview about the particular film projects in the context of theoretical discussions about concepts of national cinemas, film narration and style history or technological, industrial and political conditions.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- apply the most significant theoretical conceptions of national cinemas;
- understand to the position of national epic dramas in the context of European silent cinemas;
- explain films' narrative strategies and stylistic practice;
- comprehend these films in a broader context (industrial and political conditions, authorial poetics).
