- Course objectives
- The course will offer a comprehensive insight into several areas related to initiation, managing and analysis of film websites. This course's uniqueness stems from its highly empirical grounding, which combines general knowledge with the extensive experience of its teacher. He has involved in the preparation, implementation and daily operation of a number of film websites of various types (film magazines, community platforms, datasets and databases) at the domestic and international level. The course consists of a combination of lecture parts and seminar parts, which will allow students to apply the acquired knowledge in practice and then analyze their working hypotheses with the teacher.
- Learning outcomes
- The student will be able to understand several areas related to the preparation, development, and analysis of film magazines and film websites in general and apply this knowledge and use it in the analysis. These are areas related to Internet user behaviour, competition analysis, target groups, search engines, social networks, UX (user experience) and UI (user interface) - and more generally with a business around film websites, the possibilities of their economic utilization.
- Syllabus
- As has been said, the uniqueness of this course is results also from more than twenty years of intensive professional experience of the lecturer Tomáš Vyskočil. Its teaching will be based on high management positions in large Internet portals and - above all - with the initiation, daily management, thoughtful development and successful economic evaluation of film websites of various types at the domestic and international level. These included pioneering film magazines (Filmpub.cz), community platforms related to TV shows (Edna.cz), datasets and databases (kinomaniak.cz, flixpatrol.com) - and especially the unique Filmtoro.cz project, which interconnects many of these aspects.
- The structure of the course follows two different axes. Firstly, it logically develops a set of areas that can be recognized, analyzed and practically developed, and secondly, it connects the lecture and seminar dimensions of teaching. Each week, students will be given a more general explanation, several tools, and a simple task they will have to complete by the next week. This task will always be based on a real problem that Tomáš Vyskočil had to solve in the past - and so it will be possible to confront the paths to the solutions proposed by the students with the empirically grounded solution that the teacher has arrived at.
- The preliminary structure of the course:
- Introduction to the teacher's personal experience, a look into history (FilmPub, Edna) - and in a way a "teaser" for the lessons that will follow. - Internet user behaviour - Competitive Analysis - Target audiences - Search engines - Social networks - UX or user experience - UI or user interface - Business and everything around
- Classes are scheduled to begin on Monday, March 8.
