- Course objectives
- The lecture and the discussion form of teaching will be employed. The lecture deals with the history of the frech speaking theater in Canada from the beginning till nowdays. The readings and the analysis will touch such authors as Marc Lescarbot, Joseph Quesnel, Antoine Gérin-Lajoie, Louis-Honoré Fréchette, Réjean Ducharme, Gratien Gélinas, Marcel Dubé, Claude Gauvreau, Jacques Ferron, Antonine Maillet, Michel Tremblay, Marco Micone and others.

- 1. Situation up to 1760 and changes after 1760. 2. Theatre in Canada between 1760 and 1867. 3. Theatral life and new institutions at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. 4. Transformation period 1930-1960. Towards a modern theatre. 5.The Quiet Revolution in the 60's and 70's, social and politic function of the theatre 6. Posmodern otherness: gender, homosexual, immigrant and fist nations themes
