- Course objectives
- The course will be focused on practical examples of a historian’s work. The instruction will také place in blocks withing the so-called orientation week. The year will be divided into 5-6 groups (according to the number of students), each group will be thematically delimited (e.g. Medieval Brno, Brno during the Thirty Years‘ War, Moravian Manchester, First Republic Brno, Brno under the Protectorate, Socialist Brno). Within the seminar, the students will become acquainted under the guidance of the teacher with some historical monument (a building, memorial, archival material, museum exhibit), then acquainted with the relevant literature in the library, and how to think about the past will be demonstrated to them. In groups, they will elaborate a written work/s on agiven theme, which they will present publicly to the others at the conclusion of the course.
- Learning outcomes
- After completion of the subject, the student:
- will orient himself/herself in the systém of scientific libraries,
- acquire an idea of work with historical literature,
- will be able to write a short informed commentary on the set topic from the history of Brno with the use of specialized literature. - Syllabus
