- Course objectives
- The aim of the subject is to acquaint the students with the history of prehistory and the early period of history and the basic systematic of these periods. The lectures provide the basic information on the individual periods of prehistory and the early period of history, their characteristics, the transformations of human society, technologies, methods of settlement and burial. In the block seminar parts, a synopsis will be provided of the methods of archaeological practice and the materiál culture of the individual periods.
- Learning outcomes
- Student competences after completion of the course: - general knowledge of archaeological methods; - good knowledge of the periodisation and dating of prehistoric and early historic eras; - grasp of the most important periods in prehistory and early history; - grasp of development trends in prehistory and early history; - an informed knowledge of the basic sources of material culture. - knowledge of basic terminology in English.
- Syllabus
- The course is targeted at prehistory and early history from the origins of human society to the Roman Period.
- The study is based on history rather than on archaeology, therefore it does not analyse the classification of material culture, but presents only historical outputs derived from analyses of the sources of material culture.

- Assessment methods
- The subject is finished with an oral examination. Knowledge of the basic systém of the archaeological periods and cultures, orientation in the basic characteristics of the periods and cultures, including a basic overview of the society, economy, technologies and material culture is verified.
