- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- The implementation of information services, like other activities, is limited by a number of normative documents that impose certain rights and obligations. The aim of the course is not to provide a comprehensive overview of the legal framework but to familiarize students with the basic rules for their practice and the legal framework for handling common situations in the provision of information services (especially concerning library and copyright law).
By the end of the course, the student will be able to navigate selected legislative restrictions on working with information and will be able to resolve simple legal issues in information practice. - Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to:
- define basic legal concepts and principles in the Czech environment;
- search legal sources and apply their content to simple legal problems in practice;
- define the legislation connected with typical activities in information practice;
- identify the situation in the information work where consultation with the lawyer is necessary. - Syllabus
- 1. Introduction to the law, basic legal terms and principles;
- 2. Work with resources of legal information;
- 3. Free access to information;
- 4. Protection of information (personal data);
- 5. Copyright Act;
- 6. Library Act and its relationship to the Civil Code.

- Reading, lectures, active discussion of practical problems, team and individual tasks.
- Assessment methods
- Attendance is mandatory for six meetings (combined students can go online).
A written test consisting of open questions and questions with a choice of answers. 55% of correct answers are needed to pass. - Language of instruction
