- Course objectives
- The course is an optional sequel to the course Literature in Cultural Context. It is focused on one period, possibly on one theme or genre selected in agreement with students in the course. The course provides specialized study, including extensive work with the secondary literature.
- Learning outcomes
- After finishing the course students:
Acquire detailed knowledge of the period, theme or genre in question.
Understand the issues of history of literature as a part of culture.
Are familiar with characteristics of some major works in cultural context.
Learn the principles for creating texts of selected genres.
Are familiar with issues of publishing of major literary works in Czech editions and translations. - Syllabus
- Interpretation of the selected period, theme, or genre .
- Discussing selected links with the history of knowledge, such as creating of encyclopaedias and dictionaries.
- Interpretation of selected literary works
- Working with texts of primary and secondary literature and excerpts from them.
- In the seminar part of the course the acquired knowledge is applied during the writing of seminar papers.

- Teaching methods
- The course is based on lectures, it also involves discussions and individual work of students. It contains explanations of historical development, as well as the work with texts of primary and secondary literature and their fragments.

- An active approach to the topic, writing the seminar paper, passing the oral exam.
